Blizzard Warnings in effect

Blizzard Warning Statement as of 4:03 am EST on February 14, 2015

Blizzard Warning remains in effect from noon today to 7 am EST

Monday.

* hazard types... heavy snow... blowing snow... and blizzard

 conditions.

* Accumulations... snow accumulation of 18 to 24 inches.

* Timing... light snow begins around midday today and increases in

intensity late this afternoon and tonight. Snow ends Sunday

night but significant blowing snow continues into Monday. The

height of blizzard conditions are not expected to occur until

late tonight and especially during the day on Sunday and Sunday

evening when the winds will be the strongest.

* Impacts... heavy snow and blowing snow will lead to blizzard

conditions at times... mainly late tonight and Sunday. Travel

will be dangerous with snow covered roads and low visibility.

Wind chill values are expected to be well below zero Sunday and

Sunday night.

* Winds... north winds will increase to 25 to 35 mph with gusts up

to 55 mph late tonight into Sunday evening.

* Visibilities... one quarter mile or less at times.

* Temperatures... 5 below to 23 above zero.

 

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are

expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds

and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout

conditions... making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If

you must travel... have a winter survival kit with you. If you get

stranded... stay with your vehicle.
