Special Statement Expires 4:00 PM EDT on June 23, 2019 Statement as of 3:25 am EDT on June 23, 2019 National Weather Service cold water safety message... * warm air temperatures in the upper 70s in the mountains to mid 80s near the coast today may cause people to underestimate the dangers of the cold water temperatures which are currently only around the low 60s across Sebago Lake and Lake Winnipesaukee, and low to mid 60s in the regions smaller lakes and rivers. * The cold water temperatures can quickly cause hypothermia to anyone immersed in the water. Even when the water temperature is below 70 degrees, hypothermia and loss of dexterity can occur in 45 minutes or less. Anyone on small boats, canoes, or kayaks should plan accordingly if recreating this weekend and use caution to avoid this threat. Paddle smart from the start and always wear your life jacket!
