Statement as of 5:57 PM EST on January 26, 2015
... Blizzard Warning remains in effect from 10 PM this evening to
4 am EST Wednesday...
* hazard types... heavy snow and strong winds creating blizzard
conditions.
* Accumulations... snow accumulation of 18 to 24 inches.
* Timing... snow will intensify from south to north as the night
GOES on. Blizzard conditions will be most likely during the day
Tuesday. Snow will wind down late Tuesday but may linger into
Wednesday.
* Wind chill... wind chill readings will exceed 10 below zero and
could approach 20 below zero at times.
* Impacts... whiteout conditions will make travel extremely Dangerous if not impossible. Strong winds may lead to
scattered power outages. Temperatures in the teens and single digits combined with winds will lead to bitterly cold wind chills. If you are stranded outdoors it could be potentially life threatening.
* Winds... north 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.
* Temperatures... falling into the single digits to near 10
degrees.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions making travel extremely dangerous.
Do not travel.
If
you must travel have a winter survival kit with you. If you get
stranded stay with your vehicle.
