Blizzard Warning

Statement as of 3:09 PM EST on January 27, 2015

Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 4 am EST Wednesday...

* hazard types... heavy snow and strong winds creating blizzard

 conditions.

* Accumulations... total snow accumulation of 18 to 24 inches.

* Timing... intense bands of snowfall will continue to rotate

onshore through tonight. Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per

hour are occurring in these bands. In addition strong winds

creating blizzard conditions will continue through this

evening. Snow will wind down late tonight... with light snow

lingering into Wednesday.

* Impacts... whiteout conditions will make travel extremely

 dangerous..if not impossible. Strong winds may lead to

 scattered power outages. Temperatures in the teens and single

 digits combined with winds will lead to bitterly cold wind

 chills. If you are stranded outdoors it could be potentially

 life threatening.

* Winds... north 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 65 mph.

* Temperatures... 9 to 17 above.

 

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are

expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds

and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout

conditions... making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If

you must travel... have a winter survival kit with you. If you get

stranded... stay with your vehicle.
