Winter Storm Warning
Statement as of 3:14 PM EST on February 12, 2014
Winter Storm Warning in effect from noon Thursday to noon EST
Friday.
The National Weather Service in gray has issued a Winter Storm
Warning for heavy snow... sleet... and freezing rain... which is in
effect from noon Thursday to noon EST Friday. The Winter Storm
Watch is no longer in effect.
* Hazard types... heavy snow... sleet... and freezing rain.
* Accumulations... snow accumulation of 6 to 12 inches... along with
up to one tenth of an inch of ice.
* Timing... snow should begin from south to north during the late
morning hours Thursday. At this time it looks like the heaviest
snow would be Thursday night. A change over to sleet and
freezing rain is possible overnight Thursday night before
precipitation ends as snow Friday morning.
* Impacts... significant travel delays possible with snow covered
roads. Some blowing and drifting possible.
* Winds... northeast 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph on the coast.
* Visibilities... one quarter mile or less at times.
* Temperatures... around 30.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of
snow... sleet... and ice are expected or occurring. Strong winds are
also possible. This will make travel very hazardous or
impossible.
