Storm warning in effect and another low fat recipe

Good Morning Augusta

We’re under a winter storm warning that is imprecise and therefore dangerous.  Be careful out there.

This morning we have periods of snow with a high of 34 ºF. Winds E at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of snow 100% with 3 to 5 inches of snow expected.

Tonight we’ll have windy conditions with clouds, rain and snow. Low will b e 32 ºF. ENE winds shifting to WNW at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of precip 100%. Snow accumulations less than one inch. Winds could occasionally gust over 40 mph.

The wind direction is Northwest between 4.3 MPH and  5.4 MPH, generating a wind chill of 19.3ºF.

The Barometric pressure is 30.14 / HPA 1020.6 and falling with a weather graphic indicating rain/snow, and we’ll probably get some of each in this storm.

The UV rating is 0.0 out of 16, Sunrise is at 7:14 a.m. Sunset is 4:08 P.M. Moon rise is at 7:09 a.m., Moon set is 4:51 p.m. and we have a NEW MOON.

Visibility is 10.0 miles / 16.1 Kilometers with overcast conditions out there, just look out of the window.  The NWS says it’s clear.  Hey, It’s a government agency, isn’t it?

We didn’t receive any rain or snow over the past 24 hours.

APPLE CHEDDAR SALAD (Yum! Huh?)

Serves:  4 (2/3 cup)

1½ (3 small) unpeeled diced Red Delicious apples

½ cup chopped celery

1/3 cup shredded reduced-fat cheddar cheese

2 tbsp. chopped walnuts

¼ cup fat-free mayonnaise

1 tsp. lemon juice

2 tbsp. Splenda

  • In a medium bowl, combine 3 apples, ½ cup celery, 1/3 cup cheddar cheese, and 2 tbsp. walnuts. 
  • In a small bowl, combine ¼ cup mayonnaise, 1 tsp. lemon juice, and 2 tbsp. Splenda.
  • Add mayonnaise mixture to apple mixture. Mix well to combine.
  • Cover and refrigerate at least 30 minutes.  Gently stir again just before serving.

Exchanges:  1 fruit, ½ fat

Calories:  91; fat:  3 g; protein:  3 g; carbohydrate:  13 g; sodium:  223 mg; fiber:  1 g

Medical/doctor office tip through January 20 2017: Any prescription the doctor insists that you take that isn’t covered by insurance and has more than 6 side effects should be cause for a very protracted discussion with your doctor.  Take a good look at the side effects to see if: A. they will make you more miserable than the condition it is designed to remedy.  B. do the side effects require ANOTHER medication to treat?  If yes, consider telling the doc either a flat refusal to take, or no, find another medication without that side efect.

Contrary to popular belief the medical profession is not now, nor will it ever be beatified.
