Freezing rain and Gale Warnings

Freezing Rain Advisory statement as of 4:37 am EST on December 18, 2016

Freezing Rain Advisory remains in effect until 1 PM EST this afternoon.

* ice accumulations... around two tenths of an inch.

* Hazard types... freezing rain... with some pockets of sleet and wet snow through dawn.

* Timing... light freezing rain is expected to change to plain rain around midday Sunday as temperatures rise above freezing.

* Impacts... slippery travel. Areas that receive over two tenths of an inch of ice could see some scattered branches or limbs come down... which could produce a few power outages.

* Winds... southwest 5 to 10 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.

* Temperatures... in the upper 20s.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Freezing Rain Advisory means that periods of freezing rain or

freezing drizzle will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for

slippery roads. Slow down and use caution while driving.

 

Gale Warning statement as of 3:10 am EST on December 18, 2016

Gale Warning remains in effect from 7 am this morning to midnight EST tonight...

* winds... southwest 20 to 30 kt with gusts up to 35 kt.

* Seas... 7 to 12 feet.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Gale Warning means winds of 34 to 47 knots are imminent or

occuring. Operating a vessel in gale conditions requires

experience and properly equipped vessels. It is highly

recommended that mariners without the proper experience seek safe

Harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.
