Cold, clear and George Washington's Eggnog recipe

Good Morning Augusta

This Morning we have sunny skies with a high of 13ºF. Winds NNW at 5 to 10 mph.

Tonight we’ll have clear skies and a low of -1ºF. Winds will be light and variable.

The readings from my weather instruments in the North field are:

Humidity is 51%, the dew point is -6ºF, outside it’s -12.9ºC and 8.8ºF.

The wind direction is West Northwest between 3.4 MPH and  5.4 MPH, generating a wind chill of 3.8ºF.

The Barometric pressure is 30.75 / HPA 1041.3 and rising with a weather graphic indicating sun.

The UV rating is 0.0 out of 16, Sunrise is at 7:10 a.m. Sunset is 4:02 P.M. Moon rise is at 10:38 p.m., Moon set is 11:07 a.m. and the moon phase is Waning gibbous.

The RAW METAR reading from the airport in Augusta, Maine is:

METAR KAUG 191153Z AUTO 32008KT 10SM CLR M13/M21 A3067 RMK AO2 SLP391 70041 T11281211 11067 21128 53050

Visibility is 10.0 miles / 16.1 Kilometers with clear skies.

We received just over 0.14 inches of rain here over the past 24 hours, and that does not take the snow melting into account.

Yesterday I posted an Eggnog recipe.  With my thanks to the Old Farmer’s almanac, I am today posting the Eggnog recipe that George Washington used to make.

Enjoy.  Don’t drive a car when you drink it, but enjoy.

One quart cream

one quart milk

one dozen tablespoons sugar

one pint brandy

½ pint rye whiskey

½ pint Jamaica rum

¼ pint sherry

mix liquor first, then separate yolks and whites of 12 eggs

add sugar to beaten yolks

and mix well.

Add milk and cream, slowly beating. Beat whites of eggs until stiff and fold slowly into mixture. Let set in cool place for several days. Taste frequently.
