Winter Storm Warning and Gale Warning update

Winter Storm Warning statement as of 3:56 PM EST on February 15, 2017

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 10 am EST

Thursday...

* hazard types... heavy snow.

* Accumulations... snow accumulation of 8 to 12 inches.

* Timing... snow will continue in the mountains and continue developing farther south and east this afternoon. Closer to the coast snow has mixed with or changed to rain. Any mix will

change back to snow and become heavy at times through this evening and continue into Thursday morning.

* Impacts... travel will become hazardous due to snow covered roads mainly later this afternoon into Thursday. Isolated power outages are possible due to falling limbs from the weight of snow.

* Winds... northeast 5 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.

* Visibilities... one quarter mile or less at times.

* Temperatures... in the upper 20s.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel... keep an extra flashlight... food... and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

Gale Warning statement as of 3:35 PM EST on February 15, 2017

Gale Warning remains in effect until 6 PM EST Thursday.

* winds... north 15 to 25 kt with gusts up to 40 kt.

* Seas... 6 to 9 feet.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Gale Warning means winds of 34 to 47 knots are imminent or occuring. Operating a vessel in gale conditions requires experience and properly equipped vessels. It is highly

recommended that mariners without the proper experience seek safe Harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.
