A Real Flood WArning now in Effect

Areal Flood Warning statement as of 1:18 PM EST on January 25, 2018

The National Weather Service in Gray Maine has issued a

* Flood Warning for an ice jam in...

south central Kennebec County in south central Maine...

west central Lincoln County in south central Maine...

north central Sagadahoc County in south central Maine...

* until 100 PM EST Friday

* an ice jam on the Kennebec river continues to cause problems. The

water level is rising in Augusta and is less than 1 foot below flood stage. Due to the cold weather last night more frazil ice is flowing downstream and accumulating in Augusta. It is expected

that even colder weather tonight will result in more ice flowing into the jam. People living and working along the river from Augusta downstream to Hallowell and Gardiner should remain alert

for rapidly rising water. Remember that ice jams are unpredictable and can form and shift with little if any warning.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood

deaths occur in vehicles.
