From Farmer's Almanac

New England lobstermen who go out to sea in small boats are said to get up early to watch the sea gulls and wild geese.  If these birds fly out to sea in the morning, the fisherman is confident that it is safe for him to venture out also.  If they fly inland or seek the shelter of a cove, then the fisherman thinks twice about casting off.  In Maine they swear by the saying:  Wild geese, wild geese going out to sea, All fine weather it will be.

Among amphibians, the frog is most often mentioned as a weather forecaster.  Since he is found in nearly all countries, nearly every weather lore has a saying about him, and they all agree that when frogs croak excessively, it will rain soon.
