FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 3 PM EST THIS AFTERNOON
* WHAT...Urban area and small stream flooding caused by rain and
snowmelt continues.
* WHERE...Portions of south central and southwest Maine, including
the following counties, in south central Maine, Kennebec, Knox,
Lincoln, Sagadahoc and Waldo. In southwest Maine, Androscoggin,
Cumberland and York.
* WHEN...Until 300 PM EST.
* IMPACTS...Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from
earlier rainfall. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and
may not be passable. It will take several hours for all the water
from these storms to work through local drainage systems in urban
areas.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 9:56 AM EST, Runoff and snowmelt continue after 1 and 3
inches of rain fell overnight.
- Impacts will be worse near the coast where high tides have
backed up streams.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Portland, Lewiston, Rochester, South Portland, Auburn,
Biddeford, Brunswick, Augusta, Westbrook and Kittery.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
