Storm warning now in effect, higher snowfall amounts

Winter Storm Warning in effect until 7 PM EST this evening

The National Weather Service in gray has issued a Winter Storm

Warning for heavy snow which is in effect until 7 PM EST this

evening. The Winter Weather Advisory is no longer in effect.

* Hazard types... heavy snow.

* Accumulations... snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches.

* Timing... snow will continue through early afternoon before

 ending early this evening.

* Impacts... roads will be snow covered and slippery. Snowfall

 rates of 1 inch per hour could make it difficult for plows to

 keep up with the snowfall... leading to a greater depth of

 snow on the roads.

* Winds... north 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.

* Temperatures... around 30.

 

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather

conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of

snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in

an emergency. If you must travel... keep an extra flashlight...

food... and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

 

Special Statement as of 10:20 am EST on February 5, 2016

Band of heavy snow affecting Interstate 95 corridor...

a band of heavy snow has developed and will impact the Interstate

95 corridor from Manchester and the New Hampshire seacoast

northeast to Augusta and central Maine. This band will produce

snowfall rates of 1 inch per hour or more. Most areas will see a

storm total snowfall of 3 to 6 inches but isolated higher amounts

are possible. Visibility will be reduced to one quarter mile or

less at times... making driving more difficult. Please use caution

when traveling and delay travel if possible. Snow should come to

an end later this afternoon.
