#MEwx Colder, rain, snow an updated Weather advisory and how FRongs croaking can predict the weather

Good morning Augusta.

I’ve put up an Ambient WS 5000 weather station where you can view real time weather readings from my location online by clicking here.

The WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY has been extended, it’s in the post preceding this one. You need to read it.

This morning we have areas of fog with sleet and some rain. Rain and freezing rain with snow likely this afternoon. Snow and sleet accumulation up to 1 inch. Ice accumulation around a trace. Highs in the mid 30s with Northeast winds 10 to 15 mph gusting to 30 mph this afternoon.

Tonight we’ll have mostly cloudy conditions with a chance of snow in the evening, then partly cloudy after midnight. Cooler with lows around 11°F. Winds will be North 10 to 15 mph gusting to 30 mph. Wind chill values can drop as low as 2 below zero.

We didn’t receive any rain here over the past 24  hours, just more melting.

The  wind is East Northeast between  1.1 MPH and 3.8 MPH.

The Relative pressure is 29.39, the Absolute pressure is 29.19 and ralling with a weather graphic indicating rain, snow and clouds.

Augusta’s humidity is 76%, the  outdoor temperature is 36.5°F, the dew point is 30.0°F and the wind chill is 36.5°F.

Visibility is  10.0 Miles / 16.1 Kilometers with mostly cloudy skies.

The UV index is 0 placing the average person at low risk and the solar radiation reading is 58.3W/m2. The moon is Waning Crescent and is 13% illuminated. Sunrise is 6:37 AM, sunset is 5:11 PM, moonrise is 5:18 AM and Moonset is 1:49 PM. We’ll have 10 hours 35 minutes of daylight today. The next Full Moon is on March 9 with our next new moon being on February 20.

This weather proverb makes good, logical sense to me.

“Frogs croaking in the lagoon, means rain will come real soon.”

As cold-blooded amphibians, frogs require moist skin and relatively high temperatures to be active. This means that their croaking implies that both temps and humidity are high (the water in the air keeps their skin moist). High humidity, as we’ve learned, is a sign of incoming rain.
