This morning we have rain, then a chance of showers this afternoon. Cooler with highs in the mid 60s. Southeast winds around 10 mph, shifting to the southwest gusting to 25 mph this afternoon.

Tonight we'll have mostly clear skies with lows in the mid 40s. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.

CONGO SQUARES

2 ⅔ cups sifted flour

2 ½ tsp. baking powder

½ tsp. salt

⅔ cup shortening

2 ¼ cups brown sugar

3 eggs

1 cup coarsely chopped nuts

1 12oz. pkg. chocolate chips

  1. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In large baking pan, melt shortening.
  3. Stir in sugar and allow to cool slightly.
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time.
  5. Add dry ingredients, nuts, and chips.
  6. Bake at 350⁰ for 25-30 minutes.
  7. Cool, cut into squares.
