This holiday beverage doesn't call for any liquor in it, but nothing says you can't give it a kick on your own.

Holiday MOCHA-SPICED COFFEE

½ cup ground coffee (like a French Roast, unflavored)

1 ½ tsp ground cinnamon

½ tsp ground nutmeg

5 cups water

1 cup fat-free milk

¼ cup packed brown sugar

⅓ cup chocolate syrup (like Hershey's)

1 tsp vanilla

Whipped cream (optional, but why wouldn't you?)

1.         Place first 3 ingredients in a coffee filter or filter basket of a coffeemaker.  Add 5 cups water to coffeemaker, brew according to manufacturer's instructions.

2.         Combine milk, sugar, and syrup in a heavy saucepan.  Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until sugar dissolves.  Stir in brewed coffee and vanilla.  Serve immediately with whipped cream.

6 servings, 1 cup each.

Optional add: Brandy of your choice or, if you are a southerner with any class at all, some excellent Kentucky Bourbon.
