This election season features a lot of “Washington outsiders” who are saying things to the press in imitation of seasoned, professional liars, excuse me, politicians.

What follows is aimed at keeping you current with election year terminology.  I hope This gives you a more informed understanding of what is actualy being said by all candidates and the press.

This is the first of many installments, so check in at least once a day for the next week or so.

From the Devil’s Dictionary by A. Bierce:

ALLIANCE, n.  In international politics, the union of two thieves who

have their hands so deeply inserted in each other's pockets that they

cannot separately plunder a third.

ANOINT, v.t.  To grease a king or other great functionary already

sufficiently slippery.

(This next one is important. Candidates will haul one another into court if they feel it necessary)

APPEAL, v.t.  In law, to put the dice into the box for another throw.

Also from the Devil’s Dictionary by A. Bierce:

ARENA, n.  In politics, an imaginary rat-pit in which the statesman

wrestles with his record.

BORE, n.  A person who talks when you wish him to listen.

(This next one relates to all political analysts and pun dents for any political party)

CRITIC, n.  A person who boasts himself hard to please because nobody

tries to please him or her.
