Special Statement

Special Statement as of 1:44 PM EST on January 12, 2016 Short duration heavy snowfall possible this evening across much of the area. Light snow will begin to break out over the next couple of hours as a low pressure system gathers strength. During the evening commute snow is expected to be falling for most areas. Light accumulations and near freezing temperatures could lead to some slick roads. Of greater concern is a possible brief burst of heavy snow as low pressure rapidly deepens over the Gulf of Maine. A line of snowfall is forecast to form in southern New Hampshire and sweep northeastward along the western Maine coastline. Within this band snow may fall in excess of 1 inch per hour and combine with wind gusts of 35 to 40 mph to produce extremely low visibilities. Motorists should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions... and travel is not recommended this evening.
