This morning's winter weather advisory is in the post preceding this one.

This morning we have snow with snow and sleet this afternoon. Snow and sleet accumulation of 3 to 6 inches. Much colder with highs in the lower 30s. East winds

10 to 15 mph.

Tonight we'll have sleet with a chance of freezing rain and snow this evening. Total snow accumulation of 4 to 7 inches. Ice accumulation around a trace. Lows in the upper

20s. Northeast winds around 10 mph in the evening, becoming light and variable.

The readings from my weather instruments are:

The outdoor temperature is 28.4°F, the humidity is 80% and the Dew Point is 11.0°F.

The wind direction is Northeast between 4.2 MPH and 4.9 MPH and a Wind chill of  28.4°F.

The Relative pressure is 30.10, the Absolute pressure is 29.90 and falling with a weather graphic indicating rain/snow.

Visibility is 1.8 Miles / 2.8 Kilometers with light snow and overcast skies to 4,000 ft / 1,219 m.

The UV rating is 0 out of 16, Sunrise is 6:08 A.M., Sunset is 7:14 P.M., Moonrise is 8:08 A.M., Moonset is 10:46 P.M. and the moon phase is waxing crescent.

We've received roughly 1.5 inches of snow here so far this morning to add to the 0.10 of precip we received over the past 24 hours.

The flavor combination below is much different, but is wonderfully delicious.

Pears and Honey Crisp

  • Filling
  • 3 cups 1/4" diced pears (see note)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon whole wheat pastry flour or oat flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Heavy cream, for topping
  • Topping
  • 1/2 cup oat flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon honey, warmed

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375˚.
  2. Combine the pears with the honey, flour, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a 2qt baking dish. Toss until the pears are well coated.
  3. In a food processor, combine the oat flour and rolled oats. Pulse in the butter and honey until clumps form. Sprinkle the oat topping over the pear mixture.
  4. Bake for 25 to 28 minutes, until the topping is golden and the fruit is tender. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving. Serve a scoop of the crisp with a pour of heavy cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
