#MEwx New Flood Watch Statement for ME and N.H.
Areal Flood Watch expires 4:00 AM EDT on April 28, 2019
Statement as of 3:17 PM EDT on April 25, 2019
Flood Watch in effect from Friday afternoon through late Saturday night.
The National Weather Service in gray has issued a
* Flood Watch for portions of Maine and northern New Hampshire,
including the following areas, in Maine, Androscoggin, Central Somerset, coastal Cumberland, interior Cumberland, interior
York, Kennebec, northern Franklin, northern Oxford, southern
Franklin, southern Oxford, and southern Somerset. In northern New Hampshire, northern Carroll, northern Coos, northern Grafton, southern Carroll, southern Coos, and southern
Grafton.
* From Friday afternoon through late Saturday night
* rivers and streams are already running high due to previous
rainfall and snow melt. We expect another 1 to 2 inches of rain
Friday and Friday night, with locally 3 inches on south and
southeast facing slopes of the White Mountains and portions of
the western Maine mountains. This will allow many rivers and
streams to once again overflow their banks, especially Friday
night and Saturday. The heavy rain will end by Saturday morning
but flooding is expected to continue thereafter.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
