Sun and cold

Good Morning Augusta Maine.

This morning it will be sunny and much colder with highs around 20ºF. Winds will be 10 to 15 mph.

Tonight it will be mostly clear, colder with lows around zero. Winds will be 10 to 15 mph. Wind chills will drop as low as 15 below, so put an extra quilt and flannel sheets on the bed for tonight.

The readings outside right now, taken from my own instrumentation  are:

a relative humidity of 55% with a Dew Point of 6.7ºF.

The temperature is 20.3ºF. We have a wind chill of 11 ºF, That will vary with the wind velocity, but you need to understand that exposed skin can be damaged in wind chills – so DO NOT let the kids walk home from school or the bus stop unless you really have them bundeled up. Even then…

The wind velocity right now is between 5.4 mph and 6.9 mph out of the West.

Our Barometric pressure is 29.71 and rising. The weather graphic indicates sun.

We had measurable precipitation in the past 24 hours of 0.18 inches. If you were in the Augusta Area around noon yesterday you experienced a short burst of hail, pea-sized hail came down in a short, heavy torrent, then melted and was gone.

Visibility is 10.0 miles with clouds and overcast down to 5,500 feet.

By sundown tonight its gooing to be downright cold out there, so make sure you have the right coats and hats in the car. If you break down, you'll need them.
