Cold and snowy

Good Morning Augusta Maine.

This morning it has been cloudy with scattered snow showers. Highs in the mid 20s. Light and variable winds. Chance of snow 50 percent. Its snowing right now folks, 11:13 a.m. and its been snowing for about an hour.

Tonight we will have Scattered snow showers or a chance of sleet in the evening. Cloudy, little or no additional snow and sleet accumulation. Lows in the lower 20s. Light and variable winds. Chance of precipitation 50 percent.

Remember, the speed limit on the turnpike is down to 45 mph from the NH border up past Augusta, its real bad driving from here points South. It isn't so hot up to Bangor either.

The readings outside right now, taken from my own instrumentation  are:

a relative humidity of 75% with a Dew Point of 22.4ºF.

The temperature is 29.5ºF with a low wind chill, but that will vary with the wind velocity, even though winds will be mild.

The wind velocity right now is between 0.4 mph and 1.9 mph out of the East Southeast.

Our Barometric pressure is 29.81 and rising. The weather graphic indicates Sun.

We had no measurable precipitation in the past 24 hours until it started snowing this morning.

Visibility is 1.5 miles in light snow with mostly cloudy conditions between 3,500 and 4,400 feet with overcast to 5,500 feet.

Use your common sense folks, this snow and potential sleet is landing on ground/pavement that has been in single digit temperatures for the past few days, so its going to be very slippery out there. Maximum snowfall today isn't expected to be much more than a few inches, but if you have kids walking home from school or a bus stop, they're going to be walking in cold and slippery conditions. Do they have a sidewalk to walk on, or should you go and get them?
