#MEwx Flood Advisory added to High Wind Warning

FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 AM EST THIS MORNING
* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
* WHERE...Portions of south central, southwest, and western Maine,
including the following counties, in south central Maine,
Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln and Sagadahoc. In southwest Maine,
Androscoggin and Cumberland. In western Maine, Oxford.
* WHEN...Until 1100 AM EST.
* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
Overflowing poor drainage areas.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 7:51 AM EST, Doppler radar indicated onging moderate to
occasionally heavy rainfall across the area. Minor flooding
is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area.
Between 0.5 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. Additional
rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected over the area.
This additional rain will result in minor flooding.
- Rain will continue through the afternoon, at which time
several small streams and rivers are expected to reach
bankfull. Flooding could become more impactful for this
afternoon into tonight. Stay tuned for additional flood
alerts from the National Weather Service.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Portland, Lewiston, South Portland, Auburn, Brunswick,
Augusta, Westbrook, Conway, Bath and Gardiner.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where
you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become
killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or
creeks.
