PROLONGED WINTER STORM EXPECTED LATE TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY.
Low pressure across the Mid Atlantic will move north and east into southern New England tonight and on Friday...with the season's first widespread winter storm expected to continue across the area through Saturday.
WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM FRIDAY TO MIDNIGHT EST SATURDAY NIGHT.
* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 5 and
12 inches with the greatest amounts further inland.
* WHERE...Central Interior Cumberland, Interior Waldo, Kennebec, and
Androscoggin Counties.
* WHEN...From 10 AM Friday to Midnight EST Saturday Night.
* IMPACTS...A snowstorm will bring plowable snow to the region with a period of moderate travel impacts expected. Periods of moderate snow and low visibility will be the biggest hazards. Heavy wet snow will cause weighted tree limbs, leading to snapped branches and downed trees. Numerous power outages possible.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow will mix with rain at times on Friday
before transitioning to all snow Friday night.
