#MEwx High Wind, Flood warning and lots of rain

Good morning Augusta.

I’ve put up an Ambient WS 5000 weather station where you can view real time weather readings from my location online by clicking here.

This morning we have rain which may be heavy at times. Windy with highs in the upper 40s with Southeast winds 20 to 30 mph gusting to 55 mph.

Tonight we’ll have clouds with rain showers likely, a chance of snow showers in the evening, and partly cloudy with a slight chance of snow showers after midnight. Little or no snow accumulation. Lows will be around 14°F, Winds will be Southwest 15 to 25 mph gusting to 55 mph, decreasing to 40 mph after midnight. Wind chill values as low as -2°F.

We’ve received 9.70 (so far) rain here over the past 24 hours and it isn’t even close to being done.

wind is North Northwest between  2.0 MPH and 6.5 MPH, and we’ve clocked a “peak gust” of 21 MPH.

The Relative pressure is 29.54, the Absolute pressure is 29.34 and falling with a weather graphic indicating clouds and rain.

The  outdoor temperature is 40.1°F, the dew point is 39.8°F, the wind chill is 40.1°F and we have 99% humidity. 

Visibility is 10.0 miles / 16.1 kilometers depending upon how hard it’s raining when you look outside.

The UV index is 0 placing the average person at low risk and the solar radiation reading is 4.3W/m2. Sunrise is 7:12 AM, sunset is 4:03 PM, moonrise is 7:47 AM, Moonset is 4:04 PM. The moon phase is a NEW MOON and is 0.2% illuminated. We’ll have 8 hours 51 minutes of daylight today.

The next Full Moon is January 6,2023 (Wolf Moon) with our next new moon being on December 23.

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 AM EST THIS MORNING...

* WHAT...Mixed precipitation. Additional snow accumulations of an

inch or two with a glaze of ice. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.

* WHERE...Portions of south central, southwest, and western Maine.

Portions of northern New Hampshire.

* WHEN...Until 9 AM EST this morning.

* IMPACTS...The freezing rain is expected to fall on cold bare

pavement in some areas. This will lead to the potential for glaze

ice formation on untreated roads, leading to extremely dangerous

travel conditions. There will be areas of with an inch or two of

snow as well which will change over to rain causing a period of

slushy roads that will lead to extremely slick conditions. Plan on

delaying travel to allow time for road conditions to improve. Even

light snowfall amounts can accumulate on roads and cause dangerous

driving conditions due to snow covered roads. The hazardous

conditions could impact the Friday morning commute. Gusty winds

could bring down tree branches.

...FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON EST TODAY...

* WHAT...Widespread flooding of urban and other low-lying and

flood-prone locations. Small streams will be rise rapidly and

could flood low water crossings. Expect significant disruption to

the morning commute with deteriorating conditions throughout the

day.

* WHERE...Portions of Maine, including the following counties,

Androscoggin, Cumberland, Franklin, Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln,

Oxford, Sagadahoc, Waldo and York. Portions of New Hampshire,

including the following counties, Belknap, Carroll, Cheshire,

Hillsborough, Merrimack, Rockingham, Strafford and Sullivan.

* WHEN...Until noon EST Friday, with additional warnings possible

thereafter.

* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying

and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

- At 502 AM EST, Heavy rainfall and rapid snowmelt is

occurring, and will cause widespread flooding. Additional

rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned

area. Snow-blocked drainage will exasperate flooding.

- A threat for flash flooding exists if heavy rain continues

over the same locations for an extended period. Please report

flooding to the National Weather Service or local officials.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood

deaths occur in vehicles.
