#MEwx Heat advisory now in effect

Heat Advisory Expires 7:00 PM EDT on July 21, 2019

Statement as of 3:59 am EDT on July 20, 2019

Heat advisory remains in effect from 11 am this morning to 7 PM EDT Sunday.

* heat index values... near 100 due to temperatures in the upper

90s, and dewpoints around 70.

* Timing... this afternoon and evening, with heat continuing

tomorrow afternoon.

* Impacts... the combination of heat and humidity will make it

difficult for the human body to regulate its temperature. Heat

stroke and heat exhaustion are possible for those spending

significant amounts of time exposed to the heat, especially

with low temperatures struggling to fall below 80 degrees in

places.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is

expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity

will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are

possible. Drink plenty of fluids... stay in an air-conditioned

room... stay out of the sun... and check up on relatives and

neighbors, especially older adults who live alone, to make sure

they are able to stay cool.

People who work or exercise outside or in hot environments, and

children attending Summer camps or outdoor sports practices

should take extra precautions. When possible... reschedule

strenuous activities to early morning. Know the signs and

symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight

and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of

water.
