This morning we have mostly sunny skies with highs in the lower 70s. Winds are light and variable.

Tonight we'll have mostly clear conditions with  lows in the upper 40s. Winds will be light and variable.

We didn't receive any rain  here over the past 24 hours.

CONGO SQUARES

2 ⅔ cups sifted flour

2 ½ tsp. baking powder

½ tsp. salt

⅔ cup shortening

2 ¼ cups brown sugar

3 eggs

1 cup coarsely chopped nuts

1 12oz. pkg. chocolate chips

  1. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In large baking pan, melt shortening.
  3. Stir in sugar and allow to cool slightly.
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time.
  5. Add dry ingredients, nuts, and chips.
  6. Bake at 350⁰ for 25-30 minutes.
  7. Cool, cut into squares.
