A wet Sunday

Good morning from the northwest end of Augusta, Maine where we have a very wet, rainy and windy morning. Today's temps are not expected to go beyond 60 degrees with more rain throughout the day. Some thunder and lightening is possible in the afternoon hours.

This morning's readings are:

a relative humidity of 97% with a Dew Point of 50.6ºF.

The temperature is 51.5ºF, but we have, for the first time this fall, begun to register wind chill. This morning we have a wind chill of 48.4 degrees when the wind was blowing 6.7 mph. With yesterday's winds, we had wind chills that were 10 to 12 degrees below the regular (out of the wind) temperature, making it feel as if the temps were in the very low 40's at times.

The wind velocity this morning is between 5.4 mph and 9.6 mph out of the North. The highest wind velocity I observed yesterday was 20 mph, with the highest gust recorded in the past month remaining 23.3 mph.

our Barometric pressure is 29.88 and rising.

Our rainfall in the past 24 hours was 0.33 in., in the past week a total of 0.85 in. giving us a total of 4.23 inches.

Obviously we are now heavily into the fall, "push-and-shove" pattern of weather where the cool and warm weather push one another into and out of the area. This is the time of year when weather from down South impacts us at every opportunity.

For example, the foul weather we've been experiencing the past two days is actually weather from the fringe of hurricane Ophelia, who is not expected to do more than pass us by. Warm, wet air passing by the cooler, drier air that is trying to bring winter weather into focus gets this type of result.
