Happy Haloween

Happy Haloween. It is cold and frozen up here in Augusta Maine. It was in the high 20's this morning when I got up to make the coffee.

Today's highs are expected to be in the 40's and light and variable winds, with the same going into this evening. Tonight's lows will be in the 20's.

The readings outside right now are:

a relative humidity of 86% with a Dew Point of 29.7ºF.

The temperature is 29.7ºF, with no wind chill to speak of.

The wind velocity is presently between 0.8 mph and 1.7 mph out of the West Southwest.

Our Barometric pressure is 30.26 and rising.

Snowfall totals for yesterday's storm were ony about 4 inches here. Other locations within 20 miles of Augusta received upwards of 17 inches. We here in Augusta got lucky. Hurricane Irene did one thing for us a few months ago when she rolled through, trees and limbs poised to take power lines down in our area came down then, not yesterday.

Visibility is 10.0 miles and almost completely cloudless.

Now, about haloween --

Maine, as many of you know, has always been an enchanted place. Just ask Steven King.

Now ABC has a show called "Once Upon a Time" set in, where else? "Storybrook Maine". That's about 3.5 miles outside of Augusta. Those of us who live here know it well. After all, a part of the state legislature is set up there. (That explains a lot)

So, when you look at places like Storybrook Maine, and then at Congress and various state legislatures, is Storybrook the ONLY place like that around?

Think about it.

As for tonight, you need to know that streets are still going to be slippery, so drive extra careful. Ghostlings, gobblings and assorted undead or nearly undead (legislative representatives not withstanding) are going to about in large numbers, and we don't want anything to happen to any of them. No matter what you feel towards congress, the way to get rid of them is by vote. Got that?

Also, if you live near the Kennebec river remember that this is the evening when the local dragon population hatches out. So, when Momma dragon takes her little ones to the river for their first drink, you don't want to hit any of them with your car. Momma won't like it. Don't make Momma mad.

So, have a safe and happy haloween.

"Take a witch to dinner" night.
