Special Statement and Flood advisory in effect

Areal Flood Advisory statement as of 1:41 PM EDT on July 8, 2017

The National Weather Service in Gray Maine has issued a

* flood advisory for...

 central Kennebec County in south central Maine...

 northeastern Androscoggin County in southwestern Maine...

* until 345 PM EDT

* at 141 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to

 thunderstorms producing rainfall rates in excess of one inch per

 hour. This will cause minor flooding in the advisory area.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...

 Augusta, Waterville, Fairfield, Oakland, Turner, China, Belgrade,

Livermore Falls, Manchester, Winthrop, Benton, Leeds, Livermore,

Chesterville, Fayette, Rome, Winslow, Mount Vernon, Vienna and

Sidney.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small

creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying

spots.

Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where

you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become

killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or

creeks.

A line of strong thunderstorms will affect Kennebec... northwestern

Waldo... northeastern Androscoggin and southeastern Somerset

counties...

At 148 PM EDT, radar indicated strong thunderstorms were located

along a line extending from 7 miles southeast of Kingsbury Plantation

to 6 miles north of Winthrop to near Turner. Movement was east at 30

mph.

Winds in excess of 40 mph and half inch hail are possible with these

storms.

Locations impacted include...

Augusta, Waterville, Fairfield, Newport, Oakland, Skowhegan,

Pittsfield, Thorndike, Turner, Madison, China, Clinton, Belgrade,

Farmingdale, Manchester, Hallowell, Palermo, Norridgewock, Winthrop

and Unity.

This includes Interstate 95 between mile markers 107 and 157.
