Warm and dry today

Good morning Augusta

This morning we have a lot of sunshine with a high near 75ºF.  Winds will be light and variable.

Tonight we’ll have a few passing clouds. Low will be 51ºF. Winds light and variable.

The readings from my weather instruments in the North field are:

Humidity is 96%, the dew point is 47ºF and its 54.9ºF outside.

The wind direction is East Northeast between 0.9 MPH and 1.3 MPH generating a wind chill of 54.9ºF.

The Barometric pressure is 30.36 / HPA 1028.1 and falling with a weather graphic indicating clouds.

The UV rating is 1.0 out of 16, Sunrise is at 6:44 a.m. Sunset is 6:07 P.M. Moon rise is at 12:40 a.m., Moon set is 10:25 p.m. and the moon phase is waxing crescent.

The RAW METAR reading from the airport in Augusta, Maine where the sun first touches the U.S.A. every morning is: METAR KAUG 071153Z AUTO 33004KT 9SM SCT001 09/09 A3032 RMK AO2 SLP269 T00940089 10111 20083 53012

Visibility is 9.0 miles / 14.5 kilometers with Scattered clouds to 1,000 ft / 30 m.

We haven’t received any rainfall here over the past 24 hours.

AS far as Hurricane Mathew’s track goes, the national hurricane center’s tracking is pretty good.  Of course, even their projected track only rises to the SWAG (Scientific Wild-Ass Guess) level of accuracy.

Also, if you’re down south and evacuating, beware of structures advertised as being “Engineered to be storm-proof.”

For those of us who have ridden out multiple hurricanes I remind you of an often forgotten maxum from down in hurricane country:  “Mother Nature doesn’t read engineering specifications.  She writes them.”
