Very nasty weather this morning

Its blowing heavy west snow this morning, so if you don't have to be on the road, stay off of them. IF this means you're going to be late for thanksgiving dinner somewhere then you're going to be late. But you'll be alive to complain about them not saving you some of the best leftovers. Did you ever notice that nobody seems to remember to save you any of the BEST desserts?

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 PM EST this

Evening for the Augusta Maine area.

* locations Coos County New Hampshire eastward to the western

Maine mountains eastward to the mid coast.

* Hazard types heavy snow.

* Accumulations 6 to 10 inches of snow. Bloggers note: It is just past 8 a.m. and this prediction seems destined to be wrong. We are just shy of 10 inches right now, so, given how hard it is snowing out there, I expect us to reach the snowfall jackpot. Again.

* Timing snow will be heavy at times. The heaviest snowfall is expected this morning into mid afternoon before tapering off and ending by late this afternoon and early evening.

* Impacts heavy snow will cause treacherous travel conditions due to slippery roadways and significantly reduced visibilities. The amount of snow may lead to scattered tree damage and subsequent power outages.

* Winds northeast 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.

* Temperatures in the upper 20s.

* Visibilities one quarter mile or less at times.

The readings outside right now are:

a relative humidity of 94% with a Dew Point of 26.6ºF.

The temperature is 28.1ºF, with a wind chill of 17º F. but you can expect that to be worse if you are in an open and clear area where the wind can reach its maximum velocity with ease.

The wind velocity is presently between 9.0 mph and 12.3 mph out of the North Northeast. Our Barometric pressure is 29.90 and falling.

Visibility is presently 0.2 miles and you can't see a ceiling much less the tree tops. Pilots, you're grounded.

What does a "storm warning" mean anyway?

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather

conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow

are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an

emergency. If you must travel keep an extra flashlight, food,

and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

The cornfield around the house looks every bit as cold and forbidding as the one where Buddy Holly died. Today is also the anniversary of the assassination of Jack Kennedy back in 1963. Some of us were alive when that happened.

No matter who you are or where you have your thanksgiving meal, be thankful for what you have and remember those you love.
