Frosty Morning

Here in beautiful Augusta Maine, it is º this morning, and it is bright and sunny.

Today's highs are expected to be in the 40's and mostly sunny with winds gusting  later today to 10 mph. Tonight's lows will be in the 20's.

The readings outside right now are:

a relative humidity of 76% with a Dew Point of 25.4ºF.

The temperature is 32.2ºF, with no wind chill.

The wind velocity is presently ranging between 1.3 mph and 4.0 mph from the Northwest.

Our Barometric pressure is 30.29 and rising.

There was no rain, snow or any other form of precipitation yesterday or during the overnight hours. There is a slight chance of some rain or snow this evening.

Visibility is presently 10.0 miles and almost completely cloudless. We have a fantastic ceiling.

Remember, local elections are this coming Tuesday. Here are More election year definitions to help you decide who to vote for. These are NOT real ads, but you see and hear them in one form or another every day.

Candidate sound byte: "Welfare recipients need to EARN their benefits! IF they get a welfare check, they have to put in a full work week to get it, or NO MORE FREE RIDE!!"

Definition: There aren't any "real jobs" out there for anyone much less the poor and disabled, and we need to fill the low-end jobs the illegal immigrants used to do. "Workfare" sounds a whole lot better than "endentured servitude".

Candidates sound byte: "Washington Democrats are cutting the desperately needed aid that our state residents need this winter!

Definition: If a Democrat cuts programs, its bad. If a Republican cuts programs, its "long overdue, hard choices being made to balance the budget". Besides, I'm the one who does the budget cutting in this state (we have a GOP governor), NOT Washington. They are supposed to keep sending us checks to cash.

Candidates sound byte: "Washington Democrats are making it impossible for us to grow jobs in this state! THEY are why your taxes are going up!"

Definition: We need to shovel our financial burden down to towns and municipalities (let THEM raise local taxes) so that State government looks better than it really is. So I'll blame Washington Democrats for it.

Candidates sound byte: President Obama has driven the nation's economy down to record levels! NONE of his programs work! Send more Rep[ublicans to Washington."

Definition: Make sure the voters forget that this depression started on a Republican's watch, and ignore the fact that this isn't just a bad economy in the U.S., it is a global crisis. But if we admit any of that, our political leverage dries up. Most voters don't think past our ads anyway.

While admitting that the foregoing is mostly tongue-in-cheek, you must admit you hear that sort of thing a lot. In sum, most political ads view us voters as being easily led. This rotten economy is planet wide, and isn't the fault of either Democrats or Republicans. I'll vote for a candidate who is up front enough to say that much out straight, and ask for my vote so that he or she can try to move things back "up".
