The unthinkable strikes the unsinkable! RMS Titanic Sinks 100 years ago today!!

Good Morning Augusta.
This morning it is partly cloudy. High of 72F. Winds from the SSW at 5 to 15
mph.
Tonight it will be partly cloudy, then mostly cloudy. Low of 50F. Winds from
the South at 5 to 10 mph.
The readings outside right now, taken from my own weather instruments:
a relative humidity of 48% with a Dew Point of 41.0ºF.
The temperature is 61ºF with no wind chill to speak of at this time.
Presently we have Southwest winds between 0.7 mph and 3.6 mph.
Our Barometric pressure is 29.86 and falling with a weather graphic
indicating clouds.
We had no precipitation overnight in this area.
Visibility is 10.0 miles with a few clouds at 10,000 feet and a great
ceiling.
RMS Titanic strikes Iceberg! 1,503 passengers and crew died in the icy
waters leaving only 705 survivors (and 2 dogs), most of them in lifeboats.
The collision occurred at 11:40 P.M. on Sunday, April 14, 1912 and sank
early the next morning.
The cost to the White Star Line to build Titanic was $7.5 million (RMS
stands for Royal Mail Steamer).
Having taken 2 years with 3,000 men to build Titanic, Three million rivets
held its massive hull together until she struck the iceberg at 22.5 knots,
only .5 knot from her maximum speed.
The Titanic was never christened. It was not the practice of the White Star
Line to hold such ceremonies. Some say that was a bad omen.
Although she had 4 funnels (smoke stacks), only 3 were operational. The 4th
funnel was for looks.
As Titanic was leaving the port, the suction it caused actually snapped the
ropes of a nearby docked ship. (The S.S. New York) Tugboats had to race to
the scene to prevent the New York from colliding with the Titanic. Some
people aboard the Titanic and on the dock felt this occurrence to be a bad
omen.
Uncomfortable questions are already being asked. For example, after the
order was given that women and children be placed in the lifeboats first,
why did only 1 child from first class die, while 49 children from steerage
died?
