Good morning Augusta Maine.

It is sunny outside this morning, it will be mostly sunny today, Temps will reach the mid 40's with light and variable winds.

Tonight it will be partly cloudy changing to mostly cloudy, temps will be in the low to mid 30's with light and variable wind.

The readings outside right now are:

a relative humidity of 92% with a Dew Point of 30.7ºF.

The temperature is 32.8ºF with a wind chill of 24ºF.

The wind velocity is presently between 1.4 mph and 7.0 mph and when it blows it is out of the Southwest, increasing to about 10 mph in the evening.

Our Barometric pressure is 30.45 and falling.

Yesterday we had  no measurable rainfall.

Visibility is 10.0 miles, we have some clouds with a wonderful ceiling.

The below folklore tidbit is perhaps the definitive non-scientific way to predict the weather.

At last an answer. June 2002. - A Persimmon fruit has many seeds inside. Upon cracking them open, you will find any one of the three pieces of "silverware" shapes.

•KNIFE: you'll slice through winter (mild)

•SPOON: you'll need to spoon out the snow (moderate)...

•FORK: you'll have to "dig in" (severe)...

So...whichever you find the most of, within the seeds, is the winter prediction.

Another contributor has this interpretation :-

•A spoon or shovel there will be lots of heavy, wet snow.

•A fork you can expect a mild winter with powdery, light snow.

•A knife-shaped kernel indicates bitter, icy winds.

Also, another winter prediction is

a thick skin on fruit - hard winter to come,

a thin skin on fruit is a mild winter to come.
