Appliances

Keeping up on the cleaning and the up keep of your appliances will prolong their life. The cleaner your appliances are the better they are going to be able

to perform their functions in your life. Here are a few quick and easy to use ideas for cleaning your appliances without having to worry about chemicals

on your food or in your clothes.

To clean out your refrigerator or freezer and to kill mold at the same time, use straight vinegar and then rinse with water. This will freshen the inside

while cleaning at the same time.

If you have white deposits in your ice tray that won’t wash away, don’t throw it away – soaking it in boiled vinegar will take that white stain away.

How long has it been since you cleaned the filters above your stove in the range hood? This is where grease and odors build up if you don’t clean this vent

filter at least twice a year. You have a few options: using very hot soapy water will melt off the grease or you can soak the filter in ammonia water for

a few minutes and rinse in hot water. You can also place the filter on the top rack in the dishwasher for a deep clean.

You can use a cotton bud or a cotton rag wet with vinegar to wipe down the inside of the range hood for a fresh clean.

To keep your washing machine and dishwasher clean and in top running order, you can pour a gallon of vinegar into the washing machine and fill it with water.

Let this sit for the day or just overnight and then finish out the rinse cycle as you normally would. This will cut hard water deposits, and soap scum

that is left behind from detergents.

If you have too many suds in a load of laundry, adding a cup of vinegar to the wash will keep the suds down and clean residue detergent from the machine.

To clean up messes in your oven on top of the stove, you can add salt when the accident occurs to soak up the spill and then you can wipe it gently away.

Your stove or oven is often a difficult appliance to clean. To keep your stove and the inside of your oven looking cleaner and to lighten your cleaning

load you can place aluminum foil on the bottom of the oven to catch drips. If you lift the lid on your stove you can also place aluminum foil inside, strategically

around the burners to keep something that over boiled from caking on the inside of your stove.

To cut grease and baked on food in your oven use a mixture of baking soda, water, salt and oil based vegetable soap and spread over the entire oven. Let

this mixture sit over night or at least for six hours and then you can wipe it down with a warm rag to a great clean with out the chemicals or smell!

After every use you can clean your oven using full strength vinegar (after the oven has cooled) to keep grease and food build up to a minimum.

To clean stains on all of your appliances like your refrigerator, washer or in your dishwasher you can make a paste of baking soda and vinegar. Rubbing

the paste on the stain will bring it right up. Use this on enamel surfaces, not on plastic parts where the baking soda could scratch the surface

You can clean the interior of the refrigerator with a mixture of lemon juice, vinegar and water for a scented clean that disinfects as well.

To get sticky spills out of the bottom of your refrigerator, use very hot water on a soft cloth and repeat as needed until the mess is washed up.

Clean the dust off of the backs of your appliances. This will help them run more efficiently, clean with a half and half mixture of water and vinegar. This

will also cut static around these areas as well. You might want to clean the backs of your appliances at least twice a year if you have pets because hair

will accumulate behind your appliances easily.
