As you listen to Monday’s presidential debate, try to be a “thinking listener.”

Listen for answers that are evasive or deliberately vague.

Listen for answers that use the question as a springboard to attack the other candidate:  “I’m glad you asked me that question because it illustrates just how poorly my opponent has…”

Listen for refusal answers.  Both candidates have done this repetedly.  Trump continues to say that he won’t release his tas returns until the audit is done.  Clinton is refusing to answer any more questions about her emails.

Listen for answers that offer at least a bare outline of solutions to problems raised by the debate’s moderator.

Listen for answers to international situations where the world looks to the U.S.A. for help like refugees.  Is there even an answer, or is the answer getting the rest of the world to help make their home country livable again.

Listen for honesty.  If a candidate admits he or she doesn’t know something will they add that they will seek the best advice available etc.  Nobody can know everything about everything.

So, listen for someone who claims to know all of it.  IF so, they are not being honest.

So, who does that leave?
