We haven’t received any rain here over the past 24 hours.

During this morning’s national newscast I heard something I’ve never heard said before about a nationally televised presidential debate.

One of the morning’s reporters was iunterviewing one of the many pundits that slither out from under rocks every election season, and they asked him whether he felt the debate’s moderator should also be the debate’s fact checker.  Good God, have we come to this?

In the end it was decided that it is up to the candidates to “fact check” their opponent.  For those of you who don’t speak electoral BS, that means that we already know the candidates are going to lie, we just can’t figure out how to get paid to catch them lying in real-time where we can charge astronomic fees for doing it.  So we’ll leave it up to the candidates to do it on camera.  Media fact-checkers will point out what lies were told after the debate (read: after they’ve been able to look things up), but those guys are already on the payroll so they don’t

Really count.

And, before you sneer at my cynicism above, recall a recent news spot when the media got bored enough to report on the media.  It was reported that an executive for one of the big 3 networks had said how thrilled he was that this election was so controversial.  He was crowing how this election was making them (the network’s news branch) a fantastic amount of money.

Watch the debate folks, watch the debate and decide who to vote for on your own.
