Flood watch update

The flood watch below is from NWS sources, here in Augusta, my weather instrumentation has measured 2.84 inches of rain in the past 24 hours. For us, that is a lot of rain.

 Flash Flood Watch 

Expires 2:00 AM EDT on September 03, 2013

Statement as of 3:14 PM EDT on September 2, 2013

Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until 2 am EDT Tuesday...

 

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* a portion of western Maine... including the following areas...

Androscoggin... Central Somerset... coastal Cumberland... coastal

Waldo... coastal York... interior Cumberland... interior Waldo...

interior York... Kennebec... Knox... Lincoln... northern

Franklin... northern Oxford... Sagadahoc... southern Franklin...

southern Oxford and southern Somerset.

* Until 2 am EDT Tuesday

* rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches have already fallen across

much of western Maine. Some areas have seen more than 4 inches.

* Additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is expected tonight with

isolated amounts as much as 3 inches.

* Persistent heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding especially

in hilly or mountainous areas. Be alert for flash flooding along

small creeks and streams as well as poor drainage areas.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead

to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

 

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action

should flash flood warnings be issued.
