Thought for the day:

Solar panel projects: As a homeowner there are three basic options. First, you can buy solar panels and put them in your yard or on your roof.

Second, you can agree to let a solar panel company install a “community solar” farm on your land. This option encumbers your property for the duration of the contract and they will “let you” buy a subscription to it. Any increase in your property taxes will be your responsibility to pay, and you will receive no annual or monthly payments. That’s right, you do it for free and the solar panel company gets all of the money.

Third is the solar farm lease option. A solar farm company will lease some or all of your land for annual lease payments to you. Amounts paid to you will vary company to company depending on how much land they need and how much you negotiate the payments to be. Also make sure that they will pay any increase in your property taxes.

Please note one thing – electric power production has become an environmental issue first, and an electricity production issue second. IF you go online you’ll find numerous articles about how evil solar, wind, nuclear, wood fueled or oil fueled power plants are. They all seem to feature irreversible environmental damage and that none of the existing options are acceptable.

Nobody seems to have any realistic alternatives available. So be realistic and do your research online. Finally, beware of the “If you disagree with me you’re not only part of the problem but you’re evil too!” web sites. The power generation issue is an important problem that needs to be solved, not the end result of a blame game for clicks online.

Look at the current state of technology that can generate electricity or what is “in the pipeline” to replace it. Be reasonable.
