A period of moderate to heavy rain is expected on Thursday into Friday as low pressure moves up the coast. The rain will fall on a primed snowpack south of the mountains, leading to significant melt. The combination of rain and snowmelt will increase flows in rivers and streams, some of which could reach critical levels.
FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY MORNING THROUGH FRIDAY EVENING.
* WHAT...Flooding caused by rain and snowmelt is possible.
* WHERE...Portions of south central and southwest Maine, including
the following areas, in Maine, Central Interior Cumberland. In
south central Maine, Coastal Waldo, Interior Waldo, Kennebec,
Knox, Lincoln, Sagadahoc and Southern Somerset. In southwest
Maine, Androscoggin and Coastal Cumberland.
* WHEN...From Thursday morning through Friday evening.
* IMPACTS...Small streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may
occur in poor drainage and urban areas.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- Rainfall of 1 to 2 inches with locally higher amounts is
possible in the watch area. This in combination with 1 to 2
inches of snowmelt will lead to small stream flooding. Urban
and low lying flooding is also possible.
