Special Statement for this area
Special Statement
Statement as of 10:40 am EDT on July 31, 2014
Potential for strong thunderstorms this afternoon.
Conditions are favorable for some strong thunderstorms this afternoon across New Hampshire and western Maine. These thunderstorms will have the potential for large hail along with
gusty winds and frequent lightning.
Thunderstorms are already ongoing across parts of upstate New York and will arrive in western New Hampshire before 2 PM.
Storms will then move north and east across western Maine before weakening. The areas with the greatest risk for strong storms are across northern and central New Hampshire and the mountains of
western Maine.
Persons planning outdoor activities such as boating or hiking need to pay close attention to the weather today.
Weather conditions will rapidly deteriorate as the thunderstorms approach so you need to make sure you have adequate time to get to safe shelter. Remember lightning can strike miles away from the main part of thunderstorms. If you can hear thunder you are already at risk.
