Update to winter weather advisory and flood watch

Winter Weather Advisory

Statement as of 7:18 am EDT on March 31, 2014

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon EDT today...

* hazard types... freezing rain and sleet.

* Accumulations... ice accretion a quarter to nearly a half inch of

ice.

* Timing... through this morning.

* Impacts... treacherous travel.

* Winds... north 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.

* Temperatures... in the lower 30s.

 

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow... sleet... or

freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for

slippery roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while

driving.

 

A real Flood Watch

Statement as of 6:47 am EDT on March 31, 2014

Flood Watch remains in effect until 2 PM EDT this afternoon...

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of western Maine and New Hampshire... including the

following areas... in western Maine... Androscoggin... coastal

Cumberland... coastal Waldo... coastal York... interior

Cumberland... interior Waldo... interior York... Kennebec...

Knox... Lincoln and Sagadahoc. In New Hampshire... Belknap...

coastal Rockingham... interior Rockingham... Merrimack...

southern Carroll and Strafford.

* Until 2 PM EDT this afternoon

* periods of rain will continue this morning as bands of

precipitation continue to rotate off the Gulf of Maine. Areas of

sleet and freezing rain will continue across the interior as

well. The rainfall will combine with continued runoff and snow

melt which may cause minor flooding of rivers... creeks...

streams... and urban areas. A few ice jams will be possible as

well.

 

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible

flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be

prepared to take action should flooding develop.
