Special Weather Statement National Weather Service Gray ME 5:00 PM EDT Thu Aug 26 2021 A STRONG THUNDERSTORM WILL AFFECT SOUTHWESTERN KENNEBEC AND CENTRAL ANDROSCOGGIN COUNTIES. At 500 PM EDT, a strong thunderstorm was located between Turner and Auburn , moving east at 20 mph. Winds in excess of 40 mph and pea size hail are possible with this storm. Locations impacted include... Lewiston, Turner, Litchfield, Lisbon, Greene, Leeds, Wales, Monmouth, Sabattus and Minot. This includes Interstate 95 between mile markers 83 and 90. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, and may cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Updated: Shower and thunderstorm activity continues to become better organized in association with a trough of low pressure located less than 200 miles south of Jamaica. Environmental conditions remain conducive for development, and a tropical depression or storm is expected to form later today or tomorrow. This system is forecast to move northwestward over the northwestern Caribbean Sea near the Cayman Islands tonight, near Cuba and the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico on Friday, and into the Gulf of Mexico this weekend.
