Winter Storm Warning Statement as of 3:46 PM EST on February 15, 2014 Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 10 am EST Sunday. * hazard types... heavy snow. * Accumulations... snow accumulation of 6 to 10 inches... with amounts up to 15 inches along the mid coast. * Timing... through early Sunday. * Impacts... snow with blowing and drifting snow will make travel difficult. * Winds... north 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. * Visibilities... one quarter mile or less at times. * Temperatures... mostly in the 20s.   Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel... drive with extreme caution and allow plenty of time to reach your destination.

Cold with more snow on the way today

Good morning Augusta. Storm warning folks, second in two days, so put more gas in the snowblower. This morning it is mostly cloudy, then overcast with a chance of snow. High of 34F. Winds less than 5 mph. Chance of snow 70%. Tonight it will be overcast with snow. Low of 19F with a windchill as low as 10F. Breezy. Winds from the NNW at 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 30 mph. Chance of snow 80% with accumulations up to 6 in. possible. The readings from my own instruments are: The humidity is 78% with a Dew Point of 14ºF and a wind chill of 20.5ºF. The temperature Is   20.5ºF. The Wind is North Northeast between 0.2 MPH and 1.3 MPH. Our Barometric pressure is 30.16   HPA 1010 and rising with a weather graphic indicating clouds, but that isn't going to last.   Our UV rating is 0 out of 16, sunset will be at 5:08 PM with Moon Rise at 6:08 p.m. EST and the moon phase is a full moon. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel... keep an extra flashlight... food... and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

The National Weather Service in gray has issued a Winter Storm Watch which is in effect from Saturday afternoon through late Saturday night. * Hazard types... heavy snow. * Accumulations... the potential exists for snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches... with somewhat higher amounts possible for mid coast Maine and the capital district mainly east of Augusta. * Timing... late Saturday and Saturday night. * Impacts... snow and blowing snow will produce slick driving and sharply reduced visibilities. * Winds... north 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. * Temperatures... in the 20s.   Precautionary/preparedness actions... Good morning Augusta. Its still coming down out there – shiting between snow, rain and sleet. This morning it is overcast with snow, then a chance of snow in the afternoon. High of 37F with a windchill as low as 21F. Breezy. Winds from the North at 15 to 20 mph shifting to the NW in the afternoon. Some blowing and drifting snow is possible. * Winds... northeast 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. * Temperatures... in the upper 20s.   Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow... sleet... and ice are expected or occurring. Strong winds are also possible. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.
