Happy Haloween

Happy Haloween. It is cold and frozen up here in Augusta Maine. It was in the high 20's this morning when I got up to make the coffee. Today's highs are expected to be in the 40's and light and variable winds, with the same going into this evening. Tonight's lows will be in the 20's. The readings outside right now are: a relative humidity of 86% with a Dew Point of 29.7ºF. The temperature is 29.7ºF, with no wind chill to speak of. The wind velocity is presently between 0.8 mph and 1.7 mph out of the West Southwest. Our Barometric pressure is 30.26 and rising. Snowfall totals for yesterday's storm were ony about 4 inches here. Other locations within 20 miles of Augusta received upwards of 17 inches. We here in Augusta got lucky. Snowstorm Oct 30- bad one

If you are just waking up, DO NOT look outside! It is snowing hard outside and it is a mix of rain and heavy, wet snow with winds in excess of 25-30 mph. If you don't need to be on the road, stay off of them and keep safe. Its miserable out there. The readings outside right now are: a relative humidity of 95% with a Dew Point of 32.1F. The temperature is 33.7ºF, with a wind chill of   24.1ºF.   The wind velocity is presently between 11.0 mph and 8.3 mph out of the North. We are nonetheless gusting in the high 20's and low 30's at regular intervals, and this is expected to continue into the afternoon. Our Barometric pressure is 29.70 and falling. Visibility right now is between one half mile and 1.2 miles (when you're lucky) and the ceiling is down to 700 feet. Just hunker down folks. It'll be over when its over.

Winter Storm Warning Statement as of 4:15 PM EDT on October 29, 2011 Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 8 PM this evening to 2 PM EDT Sunday... locations... central and northern New Hampshire as well as interior southern and central Maine ... including the western Maine mountains. Hazard types... heavy wet snow. Accumulations... 5 to 9 inches of snow. Timing... rain or snow will begin in the area around sunset. Any rain will change to wet snow during the evening hours. The precipitation is expected to start as all snow in the higher elevations. The heaviest snowfall is expected to fall overnight into early Sunday morning. The snow will diminish intensity early Sunday morning... and should end by midday. Impacts... tree damage and power outages from heavy wet snow and wind. Roads will become snow covered and slippery overnight. Winds... north 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. Temperatures... in the lower 30s.  

First snow this morning

It is a bright, cool and sunny morning here in Augusta Maine. with today's high   reaching 40 with luck. We had some rain, that changed to snow overnight, so it is slimey out there. You need to drive like its December. . We are under a winter storm warning through Sunday with a heavy and wet snow possible from Saturday through Sunday. With leaves still on the trees, power outages are probably in the offing, so you need to make sure you have gas for the generator, and hit the grocery store before tonight. Get ready folks, winter is showing up in spades whether you are ready or not. This morning's readings are: a relative humidity of 70% with a Dew Point of 24.7ºF.
