"People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don't believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if they can't find them, make them."
Mrs. Warren's Profession, 1893
The foregoing sounds great but is rarely realistic. Just ask anyone stuck in a refugee camp.
Snow storm folk lore for kids everywhere:
the snow day ritual is this: On the night before a potential snowstorm, if you wear your PJs inside out and put a spoon under your pillow, you will have a day off from school the next day. The bigger the spoon, the deeper the snow.
Also, you should flush one ice cube down the toilet for every inch of snow that you want to fall.
