Windy, rain and leaf-clogged drains

Good morning Augusta

If you’re just waking up DO NOT look outside. Go back to sleep. Its miserable out there. There is a lot of leaf-clogged drains and leaf-slick roads to deal with, you know the drill, so drive careful.

This morning we have windy conditions with rain diminishing to a few showers this afternoon. High 66F. Winds SSW at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of rain 100%. Rainfall near a half an inch.

Tonight we’ll have partly cloudy skies with a low of 41F. Winds are going to be WSW at 10 to 20 mph.

The readings from my instruments outside are:

The humidity is 98% with a dew point of 67ºf, our outdoor temperature is 63.9ºf and the wind chill is 63.9ºf.

The wind direction is southeast between 3.5 MPH and 5.1 MPH.

The Barometric pressure is 29.53 HPA 999 and falling with a weather graphic indicating rain.

The UV rating is 0.0 out of 16,  Sunrise is at 7:011 a.m. sunset is 5:33 PM and Moon Rise is 7:34 p.m. and the moon phase is waning gibbous.

The Raw METAR readings from Augusta’s airport are:

SPECI KAUG 291106Z AUTO 19011G21KT 9SM OVC004 17/16 A2951 RMK AO2 T01670161

Visibility is 9.0 miles / 14.5 Kilometers with overcast down to 400 ft / 121 m. Its sloppy out there folks.

We’ve had 1.7 inches of rain here in the past 24 hours, and its still coming down.

Did you know:

(Blogger’s note: I find this one hard to swallow)

As incredible as it sounds, in the “old days” men and women took baths only twice a year (May and October). Women kept their hair covered, while men shaved their heads (because of lice and bugs) and wore wigs. Wealthy men could afford good wigs made from wool. They couldn't wash the wigs, so to clean them they would carve out a loaf of bread, put the wig in the shell, and bake it for 30 minutes. The heat would make the wig big and fluffy, hence the term 'big wig'. Today we often use the term 'here comes the Big Wig' because someone appears to be or is powerful and wealthy.

Ya know, its articles like the foregoing that make me doubt the accuracy of web content.
