Areal Flood Advisory, Flash Flood Watch
Statement as of 9:30 am EDT on August 9, 2013
The National Weather Service in Gray Maine has issued an
* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for minor flooding of poor
drainage areas in...
southeastern Franklin County in western Maine...
Waldo County in south central Maine...
Kennebec County in south central Maine...
* until 1100 am EDT
* at 930 am EDT showers and embedded thunderstorms were producing
heavy rainfall rates across Kennebec and northern Waldo counties.
Rainfall amounts of an inch or more have already occurred this
morning... with another inch or two possible with this activity as
it moves through. This may lead to minor flooding of poor drainage
areas from Augusta to Waterville to Thorndike.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated or ponding
of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to travel across
flooded roads. Find alternate routes. It takes only a few inches of
swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles away.
