Good Morning Augusta. This morning it is overcast with rain showers, then a chance of a thunderstorm and rain showers in the afternoon. High of 79F. Winds from the SSE at 5 to 10 mph. Special Weather Statement

Special Weather Statement Expires 1:15 PM EDT on June 21, 2012 Statement as of 10:09 am EDT on June 21, 2012 A strong backdoor cold front will cross portions of southwest Maine through early this afternoon. Doppler weather radar continued to show a strong backdoor cold front moving westbound over easternmost portions of Oxford County, extending southward through Androscoggin and Cumberland counties late this morning. This front will continue to move to the west through Oxford, Cumberland and York counties through early this afternoon. Ahead of the front expect oppressive heat as temperatures soar quickly through the 90s. As the front passes through southwest Maine, expect temperatures to quickly drop 10 to 20 degrees in an hours time as winds shift to the northeast. Places like Falmouth, Portland, Cape Elizabeth, Old Orchard and Saco will have a cooling breeze by late this morning.
